As a sport student, you’ll have the opportunity to support the wider community by sharing valuable knowledge in sport, health, and overall wellbeing, making a positive impact on people’s lives. You’ll also take the lead in delivering engaging sport-based activities across the college, applying your passion for sport in a real-world setting. This unique experience will help you build the confidence and expertise to plan and deliver enjoyable, inclusive, and purposeful sessions that encourage active participation and personal growth.
By working with a diverse range of individuals, you’ll develop meaningful coaching skills that prepare you for future opportunities within the sports industry.
Enhance your all-round sport knowledge, communication skills, and self-belief while strengthening essential abilities such as motivation, constructive feedback, organisation, teamwork, and consistent commitment.
Joining activities outside college will allow you to build your skills and networks. At West Notts, we have a range of sporting activities including football, basketball, badminton, netball, touch rugby, table tennis, pan football, and bootcamp club; there’s something for everyone.
You’ll also have the chance to progress into leadership roles, including becoming an AoC Sport Activator. This role allows you to champion student participation in sport, get involved in exciting workshops, and take part in regional or national events and trips. These opportunities not only broaden your experience but also strengthen your leadership, teamwork, and organisational skills.
Sport students at West Notts College also benefit from a wide variety of enriching trips and experiences. You may have the opportunity to visit the Etihad Stadium, take on skiing or snowboarding sessions at Xscape, challenge yourself at Ninja Warrior or The Mill Adventure Base, and even enjoy international experiences abroad. These trips help build confidence, teamwork, and real-world insight into the sporting industry.
Our Derby Road campus has a wide range of facilities and sports equipment to suit all needs and provide exciting training spaces. With a Sport England-accredited sports hall, a 3G astroturf pitch, a full-size grass football pitch, dedicated sports science equipment, a spin room, a rowing room, sports massage facilities, and an outdoor gym, you can enjoy using a wide range of facilities that support your learning. Sport - Level 3
I’m enjoying pretty much everything about my course, but I like the anatomy side more. The sports hall is great and free to use as long as a tutor is in there. The gym is quite nice with some good equipment and the 3G pitch is really good.
