A Levels

At Mansfield and Ashfield Sixth Form College, we offer a great range of A level subjects and a personalised study programme, designed for 16-18 year olds wishing to study full-time and progress to higher education or skilled employment.

• Studying A Levels in a college environment

  We're regularly approached by young people and their families looking to study A Levels in a different environment to school, particularly in one which promotes independence, career preparation and can provide access to a wide-range of resources and support already available to college students. By providing an A Level offer at our Sixth Form College on Chesterfield Road, Mansfield, we provide the bridge between the more traditional school environment and university and/or adult professional life.

• Study what you love

  Over two years, you’ll study at least three subjects - or four if you have exceptionally high entry qualifications. While some careers require specific subjects, most universities and employers focus on the grades you achieve and your total UCAS points.

  We offer flexibility in subject combinations, so take the opportunity to choose wisely. Research your options thoroughly and select the subjects that interest you most and align with your future career goals.

  Our team work closely with top-tier universities to provide support to those who aspire to attend them. Past students have gone on to various universities including Keele University, University of Sheffield and Bishop Grosseteste University.

  Strong links with employers and higher education

  Including Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, East Midlands Airport, Hopkins Solicitors, and global engineering consultancy AECOM. We also link with NTU with their NTU in Mansfield sharing a campus at our Derby Road site.

  You will be provided with your own laptop and locker to use throughout your studies, plus you’ll also have access to all the great facilities at the Derby Road campus too.

• Vocational courses

  Equivalent to 1 A Level course

  These Level 3 courses can be studied alongside two A Level courses. They enable you to combine both academic and vocational study and they usually incorporate more coursework alongside exams,

  • Health and Social Care
  • Sports and Exercise Science

• Applied Science

  Equivalent to 3 A Level courses

  You will only study Applied Science full-time, not alongside any other courses.

• Optional courses

  • The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) - a Level 3 qualification equivalent to half an A Level and may be undertaken in addition to your A Level courses. The EPQ allows students to research a topic of their choice, culminating in a major project like a 5,000-word essay or an artefact with a report, plus a presentation. It builds independent research, critical thinking, and time management skills highly valued by universities and employers, often earning valuable UCAS points (up to 28 for an A*) and potentially leading to reduced university offers.
  • Mathematical Studies (Certificate) is a one-year certificate course (equivalent to an AS Level) if you do not want to study A Level Maths but wish to build on your GCSE knowledge and skills.
