As the ideal qualification for anyone considering a career in, sports science, sport therapy, PE teaching or any other sport-industry related careers, this course is a great way to kick-start your journey.

On the course, you will explore a wide range of topics including anatomy and physiology, fitness training and programming, sports therapy and much more.

Lessons are delivered in the classroom and off-site where you have the opportunity to use professional facilities to run practical projects that directly link to sports theory. This includes planning and leading sports coaching sessions across the local community and the college.

At the end of the course, you will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to either progress onto university, start an apprenticeship or seek employment.

Year 2

  • Investigating business in sport and the active leisure industry
  • Exercise, health and lifestyle
  • Application of fitness testing

  • Development and provision of sport and physical activity
  • Sports massage
  • Sports injury management.

Work placement

During the course you will also be required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of work placement in an area linked to your career aspirations.

  • Entry requirements

    This course is only available to 16-18 year olds.

    • Four GCSEs at grade 4-9 including English Language and Maths

    OR

    • Successful completion of a relevant Level 2 course plus GCSE grades 4-9 in English Language and Maths.

    If you are not studying a traditional GCSE programme, we accept alternative qualifications like Functional Skills and vocational courses. If you are not planning on sitting GCSE exams, we can also support you with completing an English Language and Maths assessment. Please contact our admissions team for further details:

  • Progression

    *As we are a partner college of Nottingham Trent University (NTU), you may qualify for various benefits should you choose to apply to NTU after completing your college course. This could include a Progress NTU offer, where you would receive an offer one grade below their standard offer. For instance, a typical offer for one of their courses might require 128 UCAS tariff points. With Progress NTU, your requirements would be 120 UCAS tariff points.
