Challenge yourself physically and mentally as you prepare for real-world careers in policing, the military, and emergency services.
You’ll develop key teamwork and communication skills through group tasks and leadership activities. Sessions also prepare you for service-style interviews and selection processes, including mock interviews and practical team exercises.
Our tutors bring real-world expertise to the classroom, having served in the military, police, and private security sectors across global operations, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, and Northern Ireland. Their first-hand experience ensures that you receive practical, relevant training, preparing you for a career in uniformed protective services and emergency services.
Our courses combine intensive circuit and fitness training with practical, real-world preparation for uniformed service roles. You’ll take part in activities like hillwalking, team challenges, and overnight camping, in all weathers. These courses also require strong academic commitment, with lessons in law, leadership, government, and emergency planning to prepare you for every aspect of a uniformed protective services career.
Our outdoor strength and conditioning facility is a key part of physical development for uniformed protective services and sports students. Built to the same standard used in UK and US military training, it features pull-up bars, dip bars, climbing ropes, battle ropes, and weighted equipment.
The facility supports both structured fitness sessions and independent training, helping you build the strength and endurance required for service entry, meet the physical demands of your course, and take ownership of your personal development.

West Notts College proudly achieved a prestigious Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) 2025 – the highest honour for employers who demonstrate outstanding support to the Armed Forces community.
The Gold Award recognises the wide-ranging support that the college provides to serving and former members of the Armed Forces, including veterans, Reservists, Cadet Force adult volunteers, and their families. We also deliver qualifications in uniformed protective services (UPS) to more than 100 students wanting to pursue a career in the Army, Navy, Royal Marines, police, ambulance service, or fire and rescue services – 10 of whom are active cadets, and two staff members serve as cadet instructors.

I’m really enjoying the fitness of the course and being able to link that back to fitness lessons. The facilities at the college are quite nice, you’re able to go down to the gym and they’ve got basketball hoops and football nets and mats so you can do different martial arts, but then you can to the learning resource centre in the library to get books.
