Our Step-up and Progress Hub helps students of all abilities to build skills for life. We have a team of committed and experienced members of staff who want to give inclusive opportunities to young people to help them succeed in life.
We offer courses that follow pathways to suit young people’s needs and aspirations whether that be towards independence, further study and/or employment. You’ll work towards accredited qualifications, including maths and English, to build your portfolio of recognised skills and knowledge ready for your next steps.
Our courses run from September to June, and we welcome applications throughout the year for young people aged 16-18 (or 19 -25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan) in order to be able to undertake any necessary transitions to prepare young people for their new environment.
All our courses include maths, English, tutorial, digital skills, and your main qualification, which may include activities that take you out of the classroom. Each class will have a personal tutor and some classes may also have support assistants, depending on your own needs and the needs of the group.
At Mansfield Education Hub, you can study our Preparation for Study – Entry Level to Level 1 course which is ideal for young people who need a stepping stone to re-engage with education, especially after gaps in their learning. This pathway focuses on personal and social development to build confidence and resilience while working towards recognised qualifications. Find out more about our Mansfield Education Hub.
The one-year course is designed to help young people who have barriers to engaging in a typical classroom environment prepare for being more independent in the future, being in employment, or progressing on to a higher level of study.
Students will study towards a Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills.
The main attendance of the course is over two days, and is a split balance of outdoor activities in the woodland and classroom activities to cover the development of core skills and knowledge related to the course.
Youth work and welfare support staff will be available as a bespoke part of the course to support any barriers to learning and progression.
You’ll be given all the support and facilities needed to get the most out of the college experience – within a safe and inclusive learning environment. You’ll also get the opportunity to take lunch in a diffrent area to other students at the college, giving you more time to enjoy with newfound friends.
At the Step-up and Progress Hub, young people will have access to all the facilities of Derby Road, but specifically to the hub where we have a sensory room, training kitchen, training flat to support independence and a staffed lunch club.
At Mansfield Education Hub, young people learn in a small centre and have access to a social area, a refreshment zone, and designated welfare support.
