Overview

IMPORTANT
Applications are now open for academic year 2026/2027, but our full-time courses are still being finalised. If your chosen course changes, we'll contact you to offer a suitable alternative that matches your goals. For more information, call our Enquiries Team on 0808 100 3626.

This course is a stepping stone into applied study of the health and social care sector, and will provide you with an introduction to key areas relating to current practice.

This course also includes 30 hours of work placement, and the opportunity to practice health and safety in our hospital simulation room (e.g. understanding and practising handwashing techniques, appropriate use of PPE, assessing risks, and producing health campaigns).

What will I study?

Mandatory units:

  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Human growth and development
  • Safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Communication in health and social care
  • Working in health and social care.

Optional units:

  • Health and well-being
  • Nutrition for health and social care.

You will be required to attend 30 hours of work placement to demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the sector to support progression onto the next level. Placements support learning by providing you with the opportunity to apply knowledge to practice, receive feedback, and reflect on your own experience, alongside being able to observe professional practice in action and gain valuable employability skills.

  • Entry requirements
    • 4 GCSEs grade 3-9 including English Language and Maths
    • A successful DBS check (this must be completed by the end of September).

If you are not studying a traditional GCSE programme, we accept alternative qualifications like Functional Skills and vocational courses. If you are not planning on sitting GCSE exams, we can also support you with completing an English Language and Maths assessment. Please contact our Admissions Team for further details:

If you are aged over 19, don’t let paying for the course hold you back from achieving your goals. You can split the cost of this course over four instalments. If you wish to pay in instalments, you will be required to pay 25% (£106.25) of the total fee on the day of enrolment and a Direct Debit mandate would then be completed to enable the college to collect a further three montly payments of £106.25.
