What is the Spanish course?

The Spanish course at West Notts College is an adult language course designed to help you develop practical Spanish speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a friendly and supportive learning environment.

Whether you're learning Spanish for holidays, work, personal development or everyday conversations with family and friends, you'll gain the confidence to communicate in real-life situations. The course is delivered in small, adult-only classes by experienced tutors who will support you throughout your learning journey.

Two course levels are available:

First Steps in Spanish – Ideal for complete beginners with little or no previous knowledge of Spanish.

Next Steps in Spanish – Designed for learners who already have some basic Spanish knowledge and want to build on their existing skills.

If you've been away from education for some time, don't worry. Our tutors have many years of experience helping adults return to learning and will guide you every step of the way.

After completing your course, you'll have the opportunity to progress onto the next available Spanish course to continue developing your language skills. Please note, that as a returning learner, this would then involve a cost per session. The course tutor will explain the options during the course, but feel free to get in touch should you require further information.

Who should study the Spanish course?

This course is ideal for adults aged 19 and over who:

• Want to learn Spanish from the beginning
• Already know some Spanish and want to improve their skills
• Are planning to travel to Spanish-speaking countries
• Want to use Spanish for work or personal development
• Would like to communicate with Spanish-speaking friends or family
• Enjoy learning new languages in a supportive adult learning environment.

No previous qualifications are required.

Depending on your chosen level, you'll develop practical language skills including:

First Steps in Spanish

You'll learn:

• Everyday Spanish words and phrases
• Basic conversations and greetings
• Introducing yourself and others
• Ordering food and drinks
• Asking for directions
• Shopping and travelling in Spanish-speaking countries
• Basic pronunciation and listening skills.

Next Steps in Spanish

You'll build on your existing knowledge by learning:

• More confident conversations
• Expanded vocabulary
• Improved grammar and sentence structure
• Speaking with greater accuracy and confidence
• Reading and understanding longer texts
• Listening and responding in everyday situations
• Practical language for travel, work and social situations.

Throughout the course, you'll develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills while gaining confidence communicating in Spanish.

Next Steps in Spanish

How much does the Spanish course cost?

• FREE for eligible new learners*
• £5 per session for returning learners on a low income*
• £10 per session for returning learners on a higher income*

How is the Spanish course delivered?

The course is delivered through face-to-face classes at West Notts College's Derby Road campus in Mansfield.

Lessons are interactive and practical, combining speaking, listening, reading and writing activities to help you build confidence using Spanish in everyday situations. You'll learn alongside other adult learners in a relaxed, supportive environment with guidance from experienced language tutors.
