Studying a CIMSPA course will allow you to achieve a variety of qualifications throughout the course, including becoming a qualified gym instructor, a lifeguard and leisure attendant with other qualifications to support this too. So, you can start employment within the industry early making it easier to picture yourself at the forefront of this exciting and challenging field, armed with confidence, skills, and expertise to conquer any obstacle that comes your way. Work placement

During the course you will also be required to undertake a minimum of 20 hours of work placement in an area linked to your career aspirations.

  • Entry requirements

    This course is only available to 16-18 year olds.

    • Three GCSEs at grade 3-9 including English Language and Maths

    OR

    • Successful completion of a relevant level 1 course.

    If you are not studying a traditional GCSE programme, we accept alternative qualifications like Functional Skills and vocational courses. If you are not planning on sitting GCSE exams, we can also support you with completing an English Language and Maths assessment. Please contact our admissions team for further details:

    For the lifeguard training, you must be able to achieve the following in a pool prior to starting the course:

    • Jump/dive into deep water
    • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
    • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
    • Tread water for 30 seconds
    • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
    • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.
