This exciting course is designed to give you an insight into the world of engineering.

You will have access to our state of the art workshops, tools, equipment and facilities.

Our friendly, experienced staff will help you to develop your skills and knowledge in engineering, where you will learn the skills and techniques to start your journey into your chosen career.


What will I study?

  • Basic Engineering Skills - Using hand tools you will be perfecting such tasks as marking out, drilling, cutting, filing, and cutting threads to set tolerances in a selection of materials.
  • Basic Machining - Learning how to use a lathe you will machine hand tools such as mallets, punches, plumb bobs and stepped shaft, to set tolerances in a selection of materials.

You may be asked to take part in our 'Learning Company', where you will gain really valuable work and life skills alongside the main programme. This could mean that you do &lsquopaid' work for making park benches, servicing and valeting cars or other things. You can bring your own ideas to the learning company.

  • Entry requirements
    • GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 2-9.
    • You will also need to successfully complete a college induction process, have good attendance, good time keeping and a good attitude.

    If you are not studying a traditional GCSE programme, we accept alternative qualifications like Functional Skills and vocational courses. If you are not planning on sitting GCSE exams, we can also support you with completing an English Language and Maths assessment. Please contact our admissions team for further details:

    Applicants aged over 19

    If you don't meet the listed entry requirements, you may still be accepted with relevant experience, a strong portfolio, and a commitment to the subject.

  • Assessment

    You will work on a one to one basis with your tutor where you will be able to show off the skills and knowledge you have learned by completing a number of practical activities and sharing your knowledge with your tutor by completing some short knowledge assessments.
