Known previously as PTTLS, this 12-week part-time evening course is designed for those who are looking to start a career in teaching or seeking career progression within their area of work.

It's an ideal first step to help you decide if teaching is for you and will give you the foundations to progress your studies onto a certificate in education (teacher training).

What will I study?

  • Cognitive behaviour and how students learn
  • Adaptations of learning using differentiation of resources
  • Planning a lesson and scheme of learning
  • Engaging and motivating students
  • Planning assessments
  • Recording and monitoring assessments
  • You will also be expected to plan a lesson (Microteach) and will be observed by tutor and peers in order to be assessed as part of meeting the course criteria.
  • Entry requirements
    • A keen interest in teaching and learning
    • Ideally, have a Level 2 in Literacy
    • Good understanding of IT (preferably Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Assessment

    Through a number of ongoing theory and practical tasks.

  • Progression

    This course will give you the foundations to study a certificate in education (teacher training).

    This can be studied through NTU in Mansfield* which is located at our Derby Road campus.

    *As we are a partner college of Nottingham Trent University (NTU), you may qualify for various benefits should you choose to apply to NTU after completing your college course. This could include a Progress NTU offer, where you would receive an offer one grade below their standard offer. For instance, a typical offer for one of their courses might require 128 UCAS tariff points. With Progress NTU, your requirements would be 120 UCAS tariff points.
