What is the Next Steps in Digital Skills course?

The Next Steps in Digital Skills course at West Notts College is a FREE adult course designed for learners who already have basic digital skills and want to build their confidence using Microsoft Office applications.

Delivered in small, supportive classes at the Old Town Hall, Mansfield, this practical course develops your skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, helping you become more confident using digital technology for work, further study and everyday life.

If you've been away from education for some time, don't worry. Our experienced tutors specialise in supporting adult learners and will guide you throughout your learning journey.

After completing the course, your tutor will discuss progression opportunities to help you continue developing your digital skills.


Who should study the Next Steps in Digital Skills course?

This course is ideal for adults aged 19 and over who:

  • Already have basic computer skills
  • Have completed an introductory digital skills course
  • Want to improve their Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Need stronger digital skills for work or career progression
  • Want to become more confident using a PC, laptop or tablet
  • Are returning to education after a break

Throughout the course, you'll develop practical digital skills, including:

  • Advanced Microsoft Word features, including:
    • Mail merge
    • Styles
    • Templates
  • Microsoft Excel, including:
    • Simple formulas
    • Creating graphs and charts
    • Print layouts and printing options
  • Microsoft PowerPoint, including:
    • Creating professional presentations
    • Designing presentations for job interviews and workplace use
  • Improving confidence using digital devices for work and personal tasks

These practical skills can be applied in a wide range of workplace and everyday situations.

  • Wednesday 9 September to Wednesday 2 December 2026
  • Wednesday 9 December 2026 to Wednesday 10 March 2027
  • Wednesday 17 March to Wednesday 16 June 2027

When do classes take place?

  • Wednesdays, 2.30pm to 4.30pm

This course is FREE.


How is the Next Steps in Digital Skills course delivered?

The course is delivered through face-to-face classes at the Old Town Hall, Mansfield.

You'll learn in small adult-only groups through practical activities, tutor demonstrations and individual support, allowing you to build your confidence at your own pace.
