Overview

This FREE 12-week course is tailored for women who are considering a career in the construction industry or wishing to learn basic skills for household DIY projects. The course provides a range of basic training concentrating on the main elements of the industry in a small supportive women only environment.

Upon completion you will have the option to advance your skills by pursuing a Level 2 course in one of the main construction trades.

Start Dates

  • Thursday 23 April
  • The course runs on Thursday and Fridays from 9.00am-4.00pm.

Cost

  • FREE* - The college will cover the cost of training, test and the CSCS card (on successful completion of the course).

*New learners only. Returning learners would be required to pay the full course fee.


What will I study?

Health and Safety (Level 1 Qualification)

  • Overview of safety protocols in construction
  • Understanding and implementing health and safety regulations
  • Practical applications in a construction setting.

Bricklaying

  • Introduction to basic bricklaying techniques
  • Hands-on experience in brickwork construction
  • Understanding different types of bricks and mortar.

Joinery

  • Essential principles of joinery
  • Hands-on practice with basic joinery tools
  • Building foundational skills in woodworking.

Plastering

  • Basics of plastering techniques
  • Application and smoothing of plaster on different surfaces
  • Understanding the role of plastering in construction.

Tiling

  • Introduction to tile types and materials
  • Practical tiling skills for various surfaces
  • Grouting and finishing techniques.

Plumbing

  • Basics of plumbing systems and components
  • Hands-on experience in basic plumbing installations
  • Understanding plumbing safety practices.

Painting and decorating

  • Fundamentals of painting and decorating
  • Hands-on experience with different painting techniques
  • Choosing colour schemes and applying finishes.
