Overview

The APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) is a respected qualification designed for project professionals who want to strengthen their knowledge and understanding across the full range of project management principles.

This adult-only (19+) part-time course is ideal if you are currently working in a project environment or looking to move into project management and want to build a recognised qualification that demonstrates your capability.

You will develop a strong understanding of how projects are planned, managed and delivered. The course explores how different elements of project management work together, and how projects operate within wider strategic and commercial environments. This knowledge can support you when managing anything from smaller individual assignments through to large-scale projects.

Whether you are looking to progress in your current role, move into project management, or enhance your professional credentials, this qualification provides a broad foundation of knowledge without focusing on a single project management methodology.

You will study key areas from the APM Competence Framework, including:

Project life cycles
Stakeholder engagement and communication
Quality management
Risk and issue management

Don’t worry if you have been out of education for some time. Our tutors have many years of experience supporting adult learners returning to study and will guide you every step of the way.

You will learn in small, supportive classes alongside other like-minded adults, creating a relaxed and encouraging learning environment where you can build confidence and develop new skills.

Attendance - One day per week over 6 weeks, followed by exam preparation lesson and exam day.

Entry requirements
This course is only available to adults aged 19+.
- 2 years experience in a project environment.
- English and Maths at Level 2.
Assessment
Assessed through a 2.5 hour online exam.
The exam includes 40 questions worth a total of 90 marks, covering all learning objectives in the syllabus. The question types include:
- Multiple response (20 questions worth 1 mark each)
- Select from list (5 questions worth 2 marks each)
- Short response (5 questions worth 2 marks each)
- Long response (10 questions worth 5 marks each)
There is an optional break of up to 30 minutes between the two parts of the exam.

Additional costs
All students must purchase the APM Body of Knowledge to support with their studies. The latest edition costs £60.
How English and maths is used
English and maths skills are important in project management because professionals must communicate clearly and interpret information accurately. Strong English is needed to produce reports, project documentation, and stakeholder communications, while maths supports budgeting, scheduling, and analysing project data. Within the APM Project Management Qualification, these skills help project managers plan work effectively, monitor progress, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
