The AAT Award in Bookkeeping Level 1 is an entry-level accounting qualification designed to introduce the core principles of bookkeeping for adults aged 19+ looking for an ideal starting ground for the bookkeeping and accounting industry. This course is accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), and provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to carry out basic bookkeeping tasks and understand how financial records support business operations.
You will learn the fundamentals of recording income and expenditure, manual and single-entry bookkeeping, understanding profit and loss, and assets and liabilities. The course also introduces bookkeeping software and explores the benefits and risks of digital accounting systems.
The successful completion of this course provides a strong foundation for progression to AAT Level 2 accounting and bookkeeping qualifications.

This is a part-time, classroom-based course delivered as daytime study for adult aged 19+. Classes are kept small to create a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere where you can build confidence alongside other adult learners.
You will learn through a combination of tutor-led teaching, practical exercises, and discussions.
Our tutors have extensive experience supporting adult learners and will guide you every step of the way, helping you build knowledge and confidence at a pace that suits you.
Classes currently take place on Thursdays from 9.30am-4pm, making the course suitable for people looking to fit their studies around existing work or family and personal commitments.
Starting something new can feel like a big step, but you don’t have to do it alone. From careers guidance to mental health and wellbeing, we’re here to support you before you apply and throughout your time with us.
This course is only available to adults aged 19+.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you will need basic working maths knowledge and be able to communicate in a classroom environment.
If you are aged 16-18 and wishing to pursue a career in accounting, please consider the Accounting and Business - Level 2/3 course or an apprenticeship.
An external exam on week seven of the course.
All classes are mandatory and failing to attend a class will prevent you from being entered into the exam.
This course will give you a solid grounding before moving on to the Level 2 qualification.
