Overview

This adult-only (19+) part-time course is ideal if you are completely new to accounting or have little previous experience. You do not need to have studied recently, our tutors have many years of experience supporting adult learners back into the classroom and will guide you every step of the way.

You will study in small, supportive classes alongside other like-minded adults, creating a relaxed and encouraging learning environment.

This entry-level qualification introduces the role of a bookkeeper and the underpinning knowledge required to carry out simple bookkeeping activities, including:

Manual and single-entry bookkeeping
Recording income and expenditure
Understanding profit and loss
Assets and liabilities
An introduction to bookkeeping software, including benefits and risks

This course provides a strong foundation for progression to Level 2 accounting qualifications.

What will I study?

Bookkeeping fundamentals

Understand the role of the bookkeeper
Understand financial transactions
Process customer and supplier transactions
Process receipts and payments
Understand the benefits and risks of using accounting software to complete bookkeeping tasks.

Attendance - One day per week
Fee - £450

You will also need to purchase an AAT student membership at the appropriate level for your course. The membership fee lasts for the whole duration of the qualification. Please visit aat.org.uk for current membership fees and payment information.

Entry requirements
This course is only available to adults aged 19+.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, you will need basic working maths knowledge and be able to communicate in a classroom environment.
If you are aged 16-18 and wishing to pursue a career in accounting, please consider the Accounting and Business - Level 2/3 course or an apprenticeship.
Assessment
An external exam on week seven of the course.
All classes are mandatory and failing to attend a class will prevent you from being entered into the exam.
Progression
This course will give you a solid grounding before moving on to the Level 2 qualification.
