This two-year course offers an alternative route for those passionate about pursuing science-related careers, catering to those who prefer a hands-on approach to learning over A Levels.

Over the duration of this course, you will learn the fundamentals of science Biology, Chemistry and Physics - as well as the principles of scientific investigation, including your own research project. You will develop a wide range of practical skills in all three disciplines.

What will I study?

  • Biology, chemistry and physics
  • Laboratory skills and data analysis
  • Independent research project (compulsory).
  • Entry requirements
    • GCSE English Language and Maths grade 4-9
    • GCSE Double Science grade 4/4 plus another GCSE grade 4-9

    OR

    • GCSE Triple Science grade 4/4/3 with 4 in Biology
    • An overall average of a grade 4*.

    If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.

  • Assessment

    50% of assessment is through external exams.

    50% is assessed internally, including assessment of your practical laboratory skills.

  • Progression

    Further study at university level* including applied sport and exercise sciences, nursing, earth sciences, and health sciences.

    *As we are a partner college of Nottingham Trent University (NTU), you may qualify for various benefits should you choose to apply to NTU after completing your college course. This could include a Progress NTU offer, where you would receive an offer one grade below their standard offer. For instance, a typical offer for one of their courses might require 128 UCAS tariff points. With Progress NTU, your requirements would be 120 UCAS tariff points.
