This role can be found in organisations of any size, in any sector. In smaller organisations, this type of role is likely to have a broader remit. People Professionals play a key role in supporting the business to meet its strategic objectives by driving forward the People agenda. People Professionals are responsible for various activities from attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining talent, managing payroll and benefits, supporting positive employee relations, and ensuring compliance with employment law.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to support the business to meet its objectives through the people agenda and relative initiatives. People expertise will be used to provide advice, views, and challenge to the business, enabling the role to be involved in a wide range of projects and tasks.
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation will give specific advice and coaching on the interpretation of applicable policies and employment law to the business. They will also support on people related elements of business projects. They will work with stakeholders inside the People function, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders as appropriate.
An employee in this role will interact with various roles at differing levels of the organisation from within HR to other business areas. The ability to communicate, influence and negotiate is key whilst adopting evidence-based decision making.
Specialist
Each apprentice will be assigned a designated specialist who will visit them and their line manager regularly at their workplace or through the use of technology such as Skype, throughout the apprenticeship. Learner reviews will form a regular part of this apprenticeship and will require the commitment of your employer.

Knowledge, skills and behaviours:
Each apprenticeship programme has its own set of entry requirements. You should understand these before making an application. Individual prior attainment will be carefully considered when planning an apprenticeship programme. You will need to be aged 16 years and over and meet residency criteria to be eligible for an apprenticeship programme.
As this is a work-based qualification you must be employed in a relevant role and have a contract of employment to cover the duration of the apprenticeship programme.

As an applicant, you will undertake assessments in both maths and English prior to enrolment to ascertain current working levels and will continue to maintain skills in both subjects throughout your apprenticeship. If you possess maths and English GCSE or equivalent, there is a requirement for this to be evidenced which may result in exemption from undertaking the maths and English functional skill exam alongside the apprenticeship.
You must also be working in a role that supports this personal development programme.
In the UK, apprentices are assessed through a combination of on-programme assessment and a final Apprenticeship Assessment (formerly called the EPA). Here’s a clear breakdown of what you can expect:
2. Gateway
When you, your employer and training provider all agree that you’re ready—and you’ve met all mandatory requirements (e.g., maths/English qualifications if needed)—you’ll pass through Gateway.
This simply means you are ready to sit the Apprenticeship Assessment.

The Apprenticeship Assessment is carried out by an independent assessment organisation and varies depending on your apprenticeship standard. It may include:
