Combining practical learning, theory and work placement, this course teaches the skills, knowledge and personal qualifications to support a wide range of careers, including early years assistant, educational support assistant or progression to a Level 3 Early Years course with full license to practice.

Mandatory early years and primary education practical experience in a work placement will prepare you to gain employment in an early years setting or progress to a qualification with a full licence to practice with the early year's sector.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in a learning company to develop your business skills.

  • Child development from birth to 11 years and 11 months
  • Children play and learning
  • Supporting children positive behaviour
  • The health and safety of children
  • Exploring legislation/safeguarding
  • Children's nutrition
  • The role of the early years practitioner
  • Mandatory work placement in an early years and primary school setting.
  • Entry requirements

    This course is only available to those aged 16-18 years.

    • GCSE English Language or Maths at grade 4-9 plus four GCSEs at grade 3-9 (one must be English Language or Maths)

    OR

    • Successful completion of a relevant Level 1 course (eg. Caring for Children - Level 1) with GCSEs grade 3-9 in English Language and Maths plus relevant work experience within the industry.

    You will need to attend an applicant event and have a successful DBS check.

    If you are not studying a traditional GCSE programme, we accept alternative qualifications like Functional Skills and vocational courses. If you are not planning on sitting GCSE exams, we can also support you with completing an English Language and Maths assessment. Please contact our admissions team for further details:
