Engineer Fitter/Mechanical Apprentice

This apprenticeship role offers hands-on experience, high-quality training and the opportunity to build a long-term engineering career within a supportive and experienced team.

  • What will the apprentice be doing?

    Main job purpose:

    • Develop and become a fully qualified engineer, by undertaking and completing a recognised apprenticeship scheme, resulting in award of a nationally recognised qualification
    • Ensure compliance with ISO standards of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Systems requirements as defined in the Turner Quality Procedure and Work Instructions

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Internal Training:

    • To carry out work in accordance with the appropriate HSEQ system requirements as defined in Mitchell Powersystems HSEQ Procedures and Work Instructions
    • Undertake and complete all works as directed by the nominated supervisor Duties will include:
      o To become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of tools.
      o Fitting and assembly skills including the use of hand tools and marking out
      o Measurement and inspection techniques
      o Being able to work within a team
      o Having high attention to details.
      o Carrying out such tasks and duties as directed by your line manager
      o To complete a programme of training
    • Accurate and detailed completion of reports, timesheets and expense claims immediately on completion of job in accordance with Company guidelines
    • Adherence to timescales as defined within your apprenticeship scheme

    External Training:

    • Achieve milestone targets related to the timely completion of the apprenticeship scheme
    • Completion of relevant online learning modules
    • Complete examinations or assessments in line with expectation of line manager and college tutor
    • Be proactive and drive your apprenticeship journey
    • Communicate clearly with line manager or college tutor on matters of concern or where additional support may be required
    • Keep learning diary/log book up to date and available for review at all times
    • Build up a good quality tool kit enabling you to become self-sufficient within your third year of the scheme

    General:

    • Embrace and behave in line with the Turner “Work Safe Home Safe” culture
    • All safety observations and accidents must be reported to your line manager or logged online
    • Demonstrate good housekeeping practices within the work area
    • Attend departmental meetings, training courses, etc., as and when required
    • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Workshop/Service Supervisor or any reasonable request by the management of Mitchell Powersystems/Turner Group
  • What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

    This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our Engineering Campus (NG17). This attendance is required during term time only.

    You will work with expert assessors and tutors to develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours within the profession.

    You will experience a blended learning model.

  • What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

    As you develop your skills and complete your apprenticeship, there are clear opportunities to progress within Mitchell Power Systems, including:

    • Advancing to a qualified workshop engineer or workshop technician role
    • Gaining specialist experience in engines, automatic transmissions, diagnostics or field service
    • Progression into field service engineer roles
