Extended Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment (Building Services) (Intermediate) - Level 2


The construction industry has never been so varied and dynamic and this course offers you the opportunity to develop your existing knowledge of the industry and prepare for a more career in advanced construction roles.

This course is designed for those who want to take their career within construction to a higher technical level to pursue a career within architectural technology, surveying, construction management or building control, to name a few.  

You will learn to help meet the demands of employers in the construction and the built environment sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. 

Employers require learners to have certain technical skills, as well as knowledge and understanding of key principles, and the ability to demonstrate employability skills. These skills enable learners to adapt to the roles needed to survive in the global economy and enhance their effectiveness in the workplace. Employability skills include: self-management, team working, business and customer awareness, problem-solving, communication, basic literacy and numeracy, a positive attitude to work and the use of IT

Entry requirements

  • A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 in English language and maths.
  • Completion of a Level 1 construction course or a foundation in construction award and a proven ability in English language and maths (ideally GCSEs at grade 4).

If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment

As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).

If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.

In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
