Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry - Level 2
Overview
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist.
Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan for and provide make-up applications, hair preparation services, fashion and editorial make-up and face and body painting.
Learners will develop their abilities to ensure continuity services are adhered to for make-up application and hair services, whilst developing abilities to produce a total look for competition work. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem-solving, team working and research skills will be developed.

Entry requirements
GCSE English language with at least grade 4/C. Plus a dexterity test, attendance at summer school if progressing from Level 1, or attendance at a one-day 'welcome day' during July/August if a new learner.
You will need to supply a written reference from your school/college teacher and/or a current school or college report with an indication of your attendance pattern and achievements. This will need to be uploaded to your myVISION account by the end of May.

How long is the course?
36 weeks.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via a mix of internally-marked practical assessments, externally marked exams and externally set, internally graded synoptic assessment.

- Principles of working in the make-up industry
- Anatomy and physiology for make-up artists
- Principles of researching, planning and showcasing designs
- The art of applying make-up
- Hair artistry
- Creative make-up artistry.
Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
