Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy - Level 2
Overview
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist. Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients whilst providing a range of beauty treatments including facial treatments and make-up applications. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem-solving, team working and research skills will also be developed.

Entry requirements
- GCSE English language or Maths with at least grade 4/C or equivalent.
- Plus a dexterity test, attendance at a one-day 'welcome day' during July and August, or attendance at summer school if a progressing learner.
- You will need to supply a written reference from your school/college teacher and/or a current school or college report with an indication of your attendance pattern and achievements. This will need to be uploaded to your myVISION account by the end of May.

How long is the course?
36 weeks.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via a mix of externally set, internally graded practical assessments, as well as externally marked exams, and externally set, internally graded synoptic assessment.
What does the course lead to?
Learners who achieve this qualification are eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).

Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
