NCFE CACHE Technical Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care - Level 3

Overview

This is a vocational course equivalent to A Levels. You will be required to undertake work placements within the health and social care sector caring for a range of different client groups. There will also be an expectancy that you do voluntary work throughout the course.

Please note, you will need to complete the certificate before progressing to the extended diploma.

Entry requirements

This course is only avaliable to those aged 16-18 years 

Year 1: Five GCSEs with at least grade 4/C in English language and maths and preferably science or a Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care at C grade or Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner with appropriate English, maths and science qualifications. You will need to have a DBS check to enable you to attend a work placement.


Year 2: Successful completion of Year 1, Level 3.

You will need to supply a written reference from your school/college teacher and a current school or college report with an indication of your attendance pattern and achievements.

* If you are aged 19-23 and studying your first Level 3 course then that course may be free. Please contact us for more details. If you are aged 19 or over and either studying a second Level 3 course or qualifying Level 4, 5 or 6 course you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the costs.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through coursework, placement reports and controlled externally assessed tasks.

What does the course lead to?

Year 1 will give you a Level 3 NCFE CACHE Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care and this can lead to employment in a range of health care settings or an apprenticeship. To progress to year 2 of the programme you will need to have achieved the Level 3 Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care with at least an
overall grade C.


Year 2 can lead to university-level courses to study a range of health care professions including: nursing, midwifery, quaified paramedic and mental health nurse.

  • Communication in health and social care
  • Psychological perspectives in health and social care
  • Sociological perspectives in health and social care
  • Infection, prevention and control in health and social care
  • Working in health and social care
  • Reflective practice

Study programmes - essential skills for employment

As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).

If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.

In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
