Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Industries - Level 1
Overview
This course has been designed to introduce you to a range of practical skills from across the hair and beauty industries.
This qualification has been designed to prepare you for employment as a supervised assistant/apprentice or for further learning in the hairdressing and beauty therapy industries within college.

What will I study?
- Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector
- Presenting a professional image in a salon
- Create a hair and beauty image
- Nail art (not including nail extensions or gel)
- Essential skills for employment
- Reception skills.
Entry requirements
- Grade 2 in English and maths.
If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment
As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).
If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.
In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
How long is the course?
1 year.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by continuous theory and practical assessments. The theory is assessed by written tasks where access to a computer is essential.
The practical assessments are performed in the Revive salon on paying clients.
All theory and practical work will be collated and presented in an evidence portfolio.
