Introduction to Business, Administration and IT - Entry Level 3 to Level 1

Overview

This course consists of a range of core and specialist units that will include computer basics such as using software in the workplace, using the internet and developing basic websites, the fundamentals of social networking including e-safety and imaging and design. You will also gain essential employability skills as well as developing your English and maths.

Entry requirements

GCSEs in English and maths at grade 1/F or above. Students with no formal qualifications but with an interest in the industry would be considered.

You may need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.

Mature students (those aged 21 or over) may be eligible. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable.

How will I be assessed?

The course is mainly assessed on the coursework that you complete. You will be set a number of assignments to challenge and test your knowledge throughout the course.

What does the course lead to?

This course will prepare you for employment and provides a good grounding to go onto a more advanced course. Normally a candidate needs to show a high level of performance and commitment to progress onto our Level 1 computing, business and IT courses.

What will I study?

The programme is made up of 6 specialist units, allowing you to further develop your skills in areas such as:

  • Computer basics
  • Creating and Publishing Websites
  • Design and Imaging Software Skills
  • The Internet and World Wide Web
  • Using ICT in the Workplace

As part of the programme you will also be expected to undertake English and maths qualifications appropriate to your individual requirements.

In addition you will gain essential employability skills and training such as CV writing, job search skills and interview skills.

Study programmes

It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification. What can I go on to study?

On successful completion, you will be able to undertake a wide range of information technology courses including: Level 2 Diploma in IT, Level 2 Creative Media Production and Level 2 business course.
