Diploma in Plumbing - Level 2
Overview
Get into plumbing! If your ambition is to work towards becoming a plumber in the building services industry, this is a great first step towards your career goal. This course has been designed to give you the essential practical skills needed to progress on to an apprenticeship or into employment, and ultimately become a competent plumber.
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector. You will cover compulsory units, including:
- Hot water
- Cold water
- Sanitation
- Central heating
Local employers will contribute towards training, providing demonstrations and talks and you’ll also have the opportunity to undertake real work placements. Practical training such as this is vital in preparation for gaining employment within the plumbing industry.

Entry requirements
- Four GCSE at least Grade 4/C including English and maths.
Mature students who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.
- 19+ year olds: You will need to supply a written reference either from a recent education institution or employer. This will need to be uploaded to your myVISION account by the end of May. If you are not able to gain a reference, please contact admissions@wnc.ac.uk for further advice.

How long is the course?
One year.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be carried out in both the classroom (theory based units) via written assessments/presentations and the workshop (practical based units) via synoptic assessments of practical work using suitable industry standard tools and materials.
What does the course lead to?
The primary aim of this qualification is to help you prepare for progression into further learning and training in the Construction & Building Services sector.
What will I study?
This Study Programme allows you to learn, develop and practise skills required for employment and/or career progression in Plumbing.
It covers the following skills:
- Hot Water
- Cold Water
- Sanitation
- Central Heating
- Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
Study programmes
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
