Certificate in Hair and Make-Up Artistry (Intermediate) - Level 2

Overview

This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for make-up artistry and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a make-up artist. 

Throughout this qualification, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology and health and safety.

You will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to plan for and provide make-up applications, hair preparation services, fashion and editorial make-up and face and body painting.

You will develop your abilities to ensure continuity services are adhered to for make-up application and hair services, whilst developing abilities to produce a total look for competition work.

In parallel, you will develop your communication and customer service skills, your awareness of environmental sustainability and your commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers.

Problem-solving, team working and research skills will be developed.

Please note - your timetable will include one late evening per week.

If you plan to use the college bus service, please be aware that this does not currently operate in the evenings, therefore you would have to make your own travel arrangements home.

All hair and beauty courses require a mandatory kit and uniform.

Entry requirements

  • Grade 3 in English or maths.

If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment

As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).

If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.

In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.

How long is the course?

1 year.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via a mix of internally-marked practical assessments, written assignments and externally marked exams.

As part you’re the qualification you will be required to build a portfolio of evidence.
