This Level 2 BTEC First Extended Certificate in Business is the perfect choice for any driven and passionate students who want to further their knowledge of business studies to pursue a career in business or entrepreneurship.
Upon completion of the course, you have a variety of options such as pursuing a full time career in business or apprenticeship in specialist areas which include; administration, sales, retail, finance, human resources or even setting up your own business.
Alternatively, it is a progression route to Business (Advanced) – Level 3, T-Level in Management and Administration, or Digital Marketing and Social Media (Advanced) – Level 3 courses to further your knowledge and career options.
This full-time course is open to all students under the age of 19 and covers a broad range of business topics.
The BTEC course has been designed to help develop your knowledge and understanding of the business sector. It is an integrated business programme that will introduce you to all aspects of business development and operations at local, national and global levels.
As part of your course you will also study and gain qualifications in English and maths; the key skills that are essential to progress in a business environment, either to study at the next level or to progress to employment. In addition to this the course has a strong focus on developing your employability skills by undertaking wider learning activities.

Entry requirements
- Grade 3 in English and maths, plus two other GCSEs at grade 3.
If you are a young person who is not currently studying a traditional GCSE programme, we will consider alternative qualifications such as functional skills and vocational qualifications.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment
If you're a student between the ages of 16 and 18 (or 19 to 25 with an EHC Plan) we want to make sure you have the best possible chances of landing an awesome job once you finish college.
Students who haven't achieved a grade 4/C in GCSE maths or English to continue studying these subjects while you're here with us. By doing so, you'll be building a strong foundation of skills that will significantly boost your employability in the future.
Think of it as a chance to supercharge your knowledge and abilities. You'll be equipped with the tools necessary to tackle the world beyond college with confidence. Plus, we'll be right here to support you every step of the way.
In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.
How long is the course?
1 year.
How will I be assessed?
Coursework assessment is completed throughout your course using case studies, projects, presentations, reports linked to real business, role play activities, marketing displays, visual merchandising window displays, video and web cam research. This builds on the skills and experience you gain as your course progresses.
Assessment is undertaken throughout the course in the form of assignments, presentations, projects and external assessments.
