Award in Welding - Level 1

Overview

Whilst on this course you will be working in a state of the art fabrication and welding workshop.

You will be introduced to a whole range of fabrication and welding techniques, including material preparation, types of welds and different welding techniques as well as cutting grinding and testing.

You will be able to get involved in our Welding Learning Company which makes bespoke products and designs for our customers.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course just an interest to attend and learn about Fabrication and Welding.

Start dates and fees

The course starts on Monday 26 April 2021.

  • If you are 19+ and unemployed and receiving relevant benefit – the course is FREE
  • If you are 19+ not receiving benefit the course will cost you £75

How long is the course?

The course is for 20 hours per week, from 9am-4pm from Monday to Wednesday, for 3 weeks (60 hours in total).

How will I be assessed?

You will work on a one to one basis with your tutor where you will be able to show off the skills and knowledge you have learned by using different methods to cut, prepare and join different metals using different welding techniques.

You will be able to share your knowledge with your tutor through informal, relaxed question and answer sessions. You will continually receive feedback on your progress to help you develop within the course.
 

What does the course lead to?

The Fabrication and Welding industry is a skills shortage industry, this means that you will be able to continue to develop your skills at college, whilst being supported into employment within the industry through apprenticeships and full-time employment.

What will I study?

You will learn to work safely in a modern fabrication and welding workshop where you will be shown how to use a range of welding and fabrication techniques including, MIG, TIG and MMA welding processes.

Our aim is to prepare you for the next step in your career.
