Overview

Have you always dreamt of becoming a nurse or perhaps a midwife or occupational therapist?

If so, the Access to University (Nursing and Healthcare Professions) is the course for you. This course is specifically designed for adults (aged 19+) who have been out of education for some time and want to re-engage with education or make a career change.

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded an Access to Higher Education Diploma. Cambridge Access Validating Agency (CAVA) designs and validates Access to Higher Education Diplomas. To find out more visit www.cava.ac.uk

Entry requirements

  • You must be at least 19 years of age to enrol on an Access to University course.
  • GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or above.
  • Applicants are strongly advised to complete a work placement before joining the course.

Don’t have the entry requirements for an Access to University course? Why not consider the Pre-Access to Universty course?

This course will provide you with the entry requirements to progress onto an Access to University course of your choice. The Pre-Access course provides GCSE English and GCSE maths plus a wrap-around qualification featuring research skills, revision techniques, advice on applying to university and work experience. This course is ideal for those who are returning to education with the view to progress to university.

How long is the course?

Our Access to University courses can be studied within one academic year – up to 450 hours of class time.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on the assignments which are set regularly throughout the course. Some of these assignments will be completed under exam conditions but most will be completed in your own time.

What does the course lead to?

There are a range of healthcare related courses available to progress onto including:

  • BSc (Hons) Nursing (choice of adult, child or mental health specialisms)
  • Midwifery

You will study a range of modules as listed below:

  • Study skills
  • Maths (Level 2)
  • Individual research project in biology
  • Human biology
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
