Sector-Based Work Academy in Health and Social Care - Level 1

Overview

Vision West Nottinghamshire College is excited to be working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to provide an exciting FREE opportunity for unemployed individuals.

If you are out of work, the sector-based work academy will provide the following opportunities:

  • Gain recognised qualifications in the health and social care sector
  • opportunity to speak with employers and service users
  • A guaranteed job interview on completion of the course

The sector based work academy is held at various locations within the community and will enable individuals to gain recognised qualifications to support employment within the health and social care sector:

  • Level 1 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Level 1 Certificate in Workskills (QCF)

Entry requirements

You are required to be referred by your local job centre advisor.

To access this course you will need to be in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA).

There is a requirement to attend a selection event where a variety of assessments will take place to ascertain your suitability for the course. 

Start dates and fees

Various start dates are available throughout the year.

How will I be assessed?

To successfully complete the course you will be required to generate evidence to meet awarding body outcomes. This will be generated through taught delivery and workbook activities. There will also be a requirement for you to contribute to classroom activities and presentations.

Success rates

Delivery of the sector based work academies in health and social care has resulted in (68%) gaining employment.

What does the course lead to?

This course can lead to employment opportunities within the health and social care sector.

If successful in gaining employment, the following progression routes maybe available:

  • Traineeship programme
  • Apprenticeship programme 

What will I study?

BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

  • Introduction to the adult social care sector
  • Introduction to the values and principles of adult social care
  • Awareness of the skills and attitudes needed to work in adult social care
  • Awareness of communication in adult social care
  • Awareness of the role and responsibilities of the adult social care worker

Level 1 Certificate in Workskills (QCF)

  • Searching for a job
  • Applying for a job
  • Preparing for an Interview
  • Interview skills
  • Self-assessment             
  • Working in a team
  • Investigating rights and responsibilities at work
  • Using a CV and covering letter to apply for a job

What can I go on to study?

The programme supports progression to other courses including the Diploma in Health and Social Care and Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care. It can also complement other related courses available at the college - please check our prospectuses or online course information for details.
