Safety Awareness for Community Volunteers

Interested in working as a volunteer in your local community?
The topics within this course have been carefully selected to give you awareness of some of the key safety areas you may need as part of your volunteering role including food safety, first aid, and fire safety.
Distance learning courses enable you to undertake learning in a flexible way; you can study around your existing commitments and responsibilities, and it is great for developing your confidence in your newfound skills.

This course is primarily designed to prepare learners to volunteer in their community.

- Cost - FREE for adults aged 19 or over (on 31 August 2025), regardless of employment status.

While this course may be offered to you free of charge, failure to complete the course may result in a £125 administration fee. This fee covers the administrative costs associated with non-completion.

What will I study?

- Food Safety - Level 2
- Health and safety awareness
- Mental health awareness.
Entry requirements
- No specific entry requirements, but a minimum of a Level 1 in English and Maths (or equivalent) is recommended
- Applicants must live in England and not live in the locations listed here
- Applicants must have been living in the UK for the last 3 years.
How long is the course?
- Total time to complete - 7 hours (made up of guided learning hours studied in your own time, at your own pace).
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by online tests, subject to external quality assurance. Where indicated in the unit specifications, assessment must meet the requirements of the identified pass grade (usually 80%).
