The plastering industry offers a wide range of opportunities, working with various materials such as mortar, cement, and plasterboard finish plaster. There are also potential progression paths leading to senior roles such as site supervisor or construction manager.
Throughout the course, we will deliver a comprehensive blend of theory and practical sessions to ensure a well-rounded understanding of plastering. You'll have the chance to engage in extensive enrichment activities, including industry and community-based projects, as well as exciting trips and visits.

Plasterers specialise in the art of plastering and rendering, which involves the application of various plasters containing materials such as multi-finish, bonding agents, lime, sand, cement, and water. Through this process, walls and ceilings are strengthened and protected from deterioration.
Our dedicated Plastering Academy, located within our state-of-the-art Construction Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, offers specialised training for students pursuing a career in construction. Equipped with top-notch facilities, our Plastering Academy provides the perfect setting for honing the specialist skills and techniques required in this trade, ensuring you're well-prepared for prospective employment opportunities.

What will I study?
During the course, you will develop a range of skills;
- Health and safety
- Communication with others
- Selection of correct tools and materials
- Preparing backgrounds
- Application of finish plasters
- Application of render materials
You will be expected to study Functional Skills English and maths throughout your programme of study.
You will predominantly study via practical sessions although theory sessions will also be included. You will have the opportunity to participate in extensive enrichment activities, such as industry and community-based projects, as well as trips and visits.
Entry requirements
- A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 2, including English and maths
- Or successful completion of the Introduction to Construction (Foundation) - Entry Level 3 course
Study programmes - essential skills for employment
If you're a student between the ages of 16 and 18 (or 19 to 25 with an EHC Plan) we want to make sure you have the best possible chances of landing an awesome job once you finish college.
Students who haven't achieved a grade 4/C in GCSE maths or English to continue studying these subjects while you're here with us. By doing so, you'll be building a strong foundation of skills that will significantly boost your employability in the future.
Think of it as a chance to supercharge your knowledge and abilities. You'll be equipped with the tools necessary to tackle the world beyond college with confidence. Plus, we'll be right here to support you every step of the way.
In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.

- Practical assignments
- Theory based project work.
What can I progress onto?
Progression opportunities will include our Level 2 Apprenticeship Transition Programme in Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery or Plastering, our Level 2 T-Level/BTEC Transition Course or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in your chosen trade.
