Pathway to Care - Level 2

Overview

  • Gain a recognised qualification in the social care sector
  • Improve maths and English
  • Access a safe learning environment to develop practical skills required within the care sector
  • An opportunity to speak with employers and service users
  • An opportunity of a job interview on completion of the course
  • You will also be required to undertake a mandatory work placement (1-2 days per week) in a health care setting.

The Pathway to Care Programme will enable individuals to gain recognised qualifications to support employment within the social care sector:

  • Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care - Level 2 
  • GCSE maths and/or English 

Entry requirements

To access this course you will need to:

  • be between the ages of 16-18
  • Have GCSE maths & English Grade 3 or above
  • Be willing to purchase appropriate uniform
  • Under take a DBS check
  • You will need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer and a current school/college report with an indication of your attendance pattern and achievements

There is a requirement to attend an interview to ascertain your suitability for the course.

How will I be assessed?

To successfully complete the course you will be required to generate evidence to meet awarding body outcomes. This will be generated through taught delivery, workbook activities and practical assessments within our Care Skills Academy. There will also be a requirement for you to contribute to classroom activities, practical skills, simulations and presentations.

What does the course lead to?

This course can lead to employment opportunities within the Health and Social Care Sector.

If successful in gaining employment, the following progression routes maybe available:

  • Employment 
  • Apprenticeship programme 

What will I study?

Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care - Level 2

  • Principles of communication in adult social care setting
  • Understand how to handle information in social care settings
  • Principles of personal development in adult social care
  • Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
  • Understand the role of the social care worker
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Introduction to duty of care in health and social care
  • Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care
  • Understand Health and Safety in Social Care Settings

GCSE maths and/or English

Study programmes

It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification. The programme supports progression to other courses including the Level 2 Apprenticeship Adult Care Worker.
