Introduction to Engineering Electronics


This hands on course will provide you with some of the basic skills and knowledge needed as a stepping stone to get into the engineering industry or higher levels of study. Electronics in the Engineering Industry is advancing at a rapid rate, with new technology being created off the back of enhancing electrical and electronic capability. There is a need now for skilled people who are able to design, contextualise and understand the principles of operation electronics within products.

Whether your interest is related to design engineering systems, or cutting edge engineering such as within the motorsport and aerospace sectors, this course could be the start of the journey to get you there.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course just an interest to attend and learn about robotic engineering.

Start dates and fees

The course starts on Wednesday 28 April 2021.

  • If you are 19+ and unemployed and receiving relevant benefit – the course is FREE
  • If you are 19+ not receiving benefit the course will cost you £75

How long is the course?

The course is a total of 21 hours, 3 hours per week from 5.30-8.30pm on a Wednesday evening for a total of 7 weeks.

How will I be assessed?

There are no formal assessments for this course. However, we will help and teach you the basics of how to do the following:

  • How Electronics are used within industry
  • Learn basic principles of electronic components
  • Relationships between a variety of electronic applications
  • History and Future of Electronics in industry

What does the course lead to?

This is an interest only course that is non-accredited. This course is not designed specifically to lead to employment but could initiate an interest or option for you to follow pathways into employment or further training:

  • An apprenticeship in the disciplines of Maintenance, Design, Mechanical or Electrical engineering
  • A level 1/2/3 full-time course such as the Level 3 Electrical Engineering programme
  • Full-time employment within the engineering industry

What will I study?

You will study some of the following topics so that you have a practical understanding of electrical & electronics engineering:

  • Theory and applications of DC circuits
  • Principles and development of AC theory
  • Importance and use of capacitors within industry
  • Principles of Electromagnetism
  • Creation of an Electronic Circuit

You can go on to study other accredited or non-accredited courses. The courses listed below are our accredited courses:

  • Level 2/3 Robotics and Automation
  • Level 2/3 Engineering Design
  • Level 2/3 Engineering Operations and Maintenance
  • Level 2/3 Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
