Essential Digital Skills
Overview
The mass shift to online business operations in recent years further accelerated the need for digitally-literate workers who could help traditional businesses successfully transition to and grow in an e-commerce world.
What are Essential Digital skills?
Digital skills are defined as the ability to find, evaluate, use, share and create content using digital devices, such as computers and smartphones. The course includes the following digital training:
- Using devices and handling information
- Creating and editing
- Communicating
- Transacting
- Being safe and responsible online.
Our Essential Digital Skills qualifications (EDSQ) are funded qualifications mapped to national standards for essential digital literacy. These qualifications are designed to meet digital knowledge gaps and provide vital skills needed in today's technology focussed world.
Our flexible learning takes place on Tuesday evenings at our Adult Learning Centre on Chesterfield Road South in the centre of Mansfield.
Start dates and fees
The course is free for anyone aged 19 or over.
You can start the course at any time during the year. You can study on a flexible basis, with multiple sessions per week so you are able to attend at times that suit your existing commitments and lifestyle.
What will I study?
This course is ideal for absolute beginners with mobile devices and will help you learn how to:
- use a mobile phone, PC, tablet or a digital device correctly
- open applications (apps) on a PC or mobile phone and connect to the internet
- keep safe online
- use a digital device to buy products safely online
- communicate with family/friends or work online through video calls
- find out information, download and complete online forms.
Entry requirements
You will undertake an initial assessment to determine what level you are currently working at and what level of course is right for you.
How long is the course?
Each course usually takes about 4-6 months, depending on how many sessions per week you attend.
How will I be assessed?
There is an online test at the end of the course, and an additional task observed by the tutor for Entry level 3.
