Salon’s seasonal spirit helps hospice

Posted: 15 December 2021

Pampering and prize-winning to raise cash for a local hospice was in abundance at West Nottinghamshire College’s Revive salon, as staff and students held their Christmas charity fundraising day.

The doors to the salon were opened to the public to enjoy the festivities and treatments performed by hairdressing and beauty therapy students on Friday 3 December.

A total of £412 was raised through ticket sales and raffle entries for the John Eastwood Hospice Trust in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Guests paid a £5 fee to enjoy either blow-dried or curled hair styles, file and polish or a whole new make-up look.

A bumper selection of prizes kindly donated by local businesses were raffled off to guests. Prizes included over £100 worth of Revive hair and beauty treatments, Mansfield Town FC match tickets, Nottingham Panthers ice hockey match tickets, lunch and dinner vouchers for the college’s Refined restaurant, Cannon Hall Farm tickets, and a Blooming Wonderful flower bouquet.

Guest Alicia Rhodes won two prizes in the raffle. She said: “I come here quite regularly with my mum for treatments and meals at the restaurant. We’ve been there this morning and it means we can come again with my prize! I’ve had my hair curled today which I’m really pleased with.

“The salons are set-up really professionally and the students behave very professionally. We’ve had a lovely day with mince pies and drinks and I’ve won two wonderful prizes with the flowers and gift vouchers. Well done to everyone’s efforts today.”

Head of hairdressing, beauty therapy, sport and public services, Sarah Morley said: “I’m so very proud of all of our staff and students who organised and got involved in the Christmas fundraiser.

“It was a massive success and it was great to see everyone enjoying their treatments and socialising with our hard-working students at the end of a very successful term. I’m delighted with the amount raised which we’ll be presenting to the hospice very soon.”
