College amongst UK’s highest for student satisfaction

Posted: 29 June 2018

West Nottinghamshire College is amongst the highest-scoring colleges in the UK for student satisfaction, according to wide-ranging national research.

Student satisfaction ratings have placed the college in the top quarter of those that participated in the learner survey.
Student satisfaction ratings have placed the college in the top quarter of those that participated in the learner survey.

Results of the learner exit survey 2017/18, which sought the views of those who studied on courses this academic year, have placed it in the top 25 per cent of participating colleges for positive feedback.

Market research specialists QDP Services quizzed 499,930 students from 92 further education providers and analysed the responses.

Almost 2,000 students from the Mansfield college took part by completing an online questionnaire. Their positive responses have seen it achieve scores ranging between 94 per cent and 99 per cent in all categories – namely teaching and learning, tests and assessments, general cross-college facilities and services; personal development, behaviour and welfare; overall experience; and next steps and progression.

The majority of students quizzed agreed that tutors challenged them to do their best, they knew where to go to for support, and they were given feedback that helped them improve. They felt safe at college, their course had prepared them for their next steps, and they had developed skills that would help them gain employment.

Personal development, behaviour and welfare was the top-scoring category, at 99 per cent, with virtually all respondents saying the college encourages respect for different backgrounds, faiths and beliefs, has a positive learning culture, encouraged them to think about their future career, and provided opportunities to take part in wider learning activities.

Julian Smith, director of learning and innovation, said: “The opinions of our students really matter to us and shapes our range of provision and services, so it’s pleasing to receive such overwhelmingly positive feedback.

“This is testament to our staff who work tirelessly to ensure students receive a high-quality learning experience, with access to great facilities and a wealth of wider learning opportunities, in an environment that’s safe, supportive and inclusive.

“However, we’re never complacent and always aim to improve year-on-year. Our goal is to consistently exceed students’ expectations.”
