Foundation Degree Business Management

Overview

The FdA Business Management is an innovative and flexible programme of study which has been designed in conjunction with local employers and Birmingham City University. This ensures that you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge required to operate in today’s challenging business and management environments.

This course is validated by Birmingham City University. Note: We are planning to formally revalidate this course during 2016-17 to ensure currency is maintained, so there will be some changes as part of this updating. We will keep all applicants informed.

Entry requirements

To start this course you will be expected to have successfully completed a minimum of one of the following:

  • At least 64 UCAS points (160 points 2016-17 tariff) at A Level in appropriate subjects.
  • NVQ Level 3 in a related subject.
  • Appropriate BTEC National Diploma with MM profile or Extended Diploma with MMP profile or above.
  • Other relevant Level 3 qualification (normally at merit grade).
  • Alternatively, we will consider substantive experience in a relevant field.

We normally also require three GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above, to include English language and maths: English and maths at Level 2 are essential requirements.

Course fees are payable for each year of all university-level courses. To identify your course fees and the financial support that may be available to you, please visit the finance and funding page, or contact a member of the HE team at the college.

Provisional timetables will be discussed at interview, and confirmed in the final joining instructions which all students will receive in July.

Additional costs: Every student is different, but as a rough guide you should allow for the following costs of study, on top of basic stationery and IT costs, per year:

Essential: Between £100-£300 on books. Up to £100 on visits, conferences, etc.

How long is the course?

This is a two-year full-time course, normally eight hours over two evenings per week or one afternoon and one evening per week with occasional all day events. You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to research and work outside the classroom.

Location

How will I be assessed?

If you were seeking employment, possible options include a wide range of supervisory or management roles within the public, private and voluntary sectors. For example, the course may lead to roles within finance, marketing, human resource management or planning and operations. This list is not exhaustive.

What does the course lead to?

Completed foundation degrees are worth 240 CATS points in line with the UK universities’ credit accumulated transfer scheme.

What can I go on to study?

  • Upon successful completion you may wish to progress to the BA (Hons) Business and Management (top-up) available at the college, or another appropriate top-up award at another institution. All further study options will be subject to entry requirements.
  • Alternatively, you could complete an appropriate top-up degree at another institution.
