Developing Skills for Employment

Overview

As well as studying a range of topics related to customer service, problem-solving and communication, this course will provide the opportunity to complete an internship within the college across a variety of different job roles including:

  • Catering
  • Cleaning
  • Estates team (painting and decorating)
  • Reception
  • Refines stores
  • LRC
  • Post room
  • Animal care technicians
  • IT department
  • Sports Enrichment
  • Revive reception

The course will enable you to build your self-confidence skills and support you in gaining those all-important skills required for the world of work.

 You will develop a range of employability skills through experiencing different occupations within the college, including:

Entry requirements

  • No formal entry requirements,
  • You must have a minimum of one year of studying on a Level 1 college course and attend an interview with the teacher.
  • You will be expected to work independently in a work placement.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment

As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).

If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.

In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.

What does the course lead to?

Upon completion you could choose to undertake work experience in a voluntary capacity, apply for a work placement or utilise your new skills by gaining employment.
