Animal Care - Entry Level 3

Overview

As an entry-level course, it’s a great first step onto the pathway of animal care qualifications. It combines both classroom learning and hands-on practical experience, providing a unique experience to learn both at college and at a local farm. 

On this course, you’ll develop personal and work-based skills related to animal care and welfare.

As well as studying a range of skills related to the care and welfare of animals, this course will enable you to build self-confidence and improve on your personal and social development skills.

What will I study?

  • Assisting with feeding, watering and cleaning animals
  • Showing visitors around a small animal enterprise
  • Assertiveness, decision-making and team-building skills
  • Searching and applying for a job
  • Recognising parts of the body of small animals

Entry requirements

  • No formal entry requirements but you will need to complete an assessment and a writing diagnostic.

Study programmes - essential skills for employment

As an entry requirement on some of our courses, you will need a GCSE in both English and maths with at least a grade 4/C (please see entry requirements above).

If this isn’t displayed under the entry requirements and you don’t currently have a GCSE in both English and maths at grade 4/C or above before joining us, you will then study English and maths as part of your programme with the aim of achieving a qualification with at least a grade 4/C. This is to help improve your chances of employment once you leave us.

In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, all students aged 19 and under and studying a full-time course with us will take part in our study programmes.

1 year. 


How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed on your portfolio work and through practical assessment.


What does the course lead to?

Upon completion you could gain employment in a role related to the skills and knowledge you develop on the course.
