The purpose of the role is to lead and inspire the cross-college English subject delivery team to provide excellent teaching and learning, an outstanding experience for learners, strong progress and high levels of achievement.  The success of learners and the drive for continual improvement will be your key driver.

You will report directly to the Vice Principal for Curriculum and Quality; however, the role is to manage English provision at level 2 and below for all college students and apprentices.

You will be accountable for the success of students who study English.  This success will be measured through high achievement and progression rates, high-quality teaching and learning, student satisfaction surveys. You will be responsible for contributing to the college’s English and mathematics strategy and delivering the strategy through your team.  You will support your team to develop their professional practice and carry out observations with your team in line with the Teaching, Learning and Assessment observation policy to ensure that this development is having impact.  You will also undertake appraisals of all of your staff.  You will be the college champion for the delivery of English subject teaching and support other Heads of Department in developing the skills of their staff in this regard.

The role will require you to take on and work to the college’s values. 

This post has a commitment of 100 hours per year of English subject teaching.
