Overview

A course designed to meet the needs of young people who want to gain the necessary skills required for working with animals.

Description

As well as studying a range of skills related to the care and welfare of animals, this course will also enable you to build your self confidence while improving your personal and social development.

As well as studying at Derby Road, you'll also spend time at Willow Tree Farm in Shirebrook.

How long is the course?

One year. Attendance is required on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 3.30pm.

How will I be assessed?

You'll be assessed on your portfolio work and through Basic Skills assessments.

What will I study?

You'll study animal accommodation, animal health, and the welfare and care of farm animals.

In addition, you'll study functional skills in Maths and English.

What does the course lead to?

Upon completion you could gain employment in a role related to the skills and knowledge you develop on the course.

What can I go on to study?

After successful completion you could opt to progress to a related level 1 course available at West Notts College.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but an interest in working with animals is desirable.
