Physical Education AS/A Level

Overview

This A Level takes a contemporary view of PE and sport, focusing on its dynamic development at a local, national and international level.

Description

Sport has never been more prevalent in the UK than it is today. With the London Olympics heading our way in 2012 and the nation becoming more aware of the importance of fitness, opportunities to forge a rewarding and successful career in sport are increasing.

You will develop your knowledge of what constitutes a healthy and active lifestyle and the different methods of fitness training and assessments.

How long is the course?

1 - 2 years.

How will I be assessed?

Through coursework and portfolios of evidence, and your own performance to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the sporting world. There are timed written papers for all units except 2 and 5.

What will I study?

You will look at fitness trends, nutrition and weight management, the effects of ageing and participation in sport and recreation.

What does the course lead to?

You could gain employment in leisure centres or at sports clubs in a coaching or advisory capacity. You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to instruct and advise on sports development and fitness programmes in a variety of different roles.

What can I go on to study?

You could opt to continue your studies at university level on our Foundation Degree in Sport with options in science, coaching or management.

Entry requirements
