To demonstrate knowledge, application and evaluation of the key concepts employed within Media. This includes texts, ideas, theories, debates and technology.

Description

In the media-dominated world of the 21st century, wars are won and lost on television, celebrities seem more familiar to us than real life friends and our identities mirror figures from sport, music and fashion.

You will be taught how to analyse the various forms of media that we consume everyday, developing the ability to deconstruct advertising, film, television, radio and the press.

How long is the course?

1-2 years.

How will I be assessed?

Coursework and examination. Reading the media and textual topics in contemporary media are assessed by examination. Practical production assessed by coursework.

Success rates

A2 pass rate for 2011: 100%.

What does the course lead to?

Careers in film, radio and television are all possible options for Media Studies students. Employment ranges from journalism and TV criticism to production and broadcasting, as well as a host of other varied and interesting opportunities.

What can I go on to study?

You can opt to study Media at university or gain access to other courses that link in with the areas covered on the A Level (Film Studies, Sociology and Public Relations for example). We also offer the HND in Interactive Media at Vision West Notts if you want to stay here and continue into higher education.

Entry requirements

You must possess five GCSEs at grade C or above. No prior knowledge/study of media is required.

Once we have received your application form, we will invite you into college for an interview or audition. You will be able to discuss every aspect of the course you have chosen, as well as any alternatives you may be considering. You will also have the opportunity to visit the areas of the college used for your programme choice.
