Maths AS/A Level

Overview

Maths plays a significant role in careers in medicine, engineering, economics and the social sciences. Our everyday lives encounter mathematical questions and problems, from calculating how much a 15% discount is to working out the probability of the train being late; you cannot get away from maths.

Description

There are four core modules which will cover pure mathematics. You will also study statistics with data analysis and game theory.

How long is the course?

Both the AS and A2 take one year each.

How will I be assessed?

Homework based on the lesson will be set on a weekly basis, together with module assessments which average six for each module.

Success rates

A2 pass rate for 2011: 100%.

What does the course lead to?

The Mathematics A Level can lead to work as a teacher, statistician, analyst, financial advisor or a role in accountancy.

What can I go on to study?

You can pursue further study in these fields along with Business and Economics degree courses. An A Level in Mathematics is highly regarded by both universities and potential employers.

Entry requirements

You must possess five GCSEs at grade C or above, which must include B or above in Mathematics.
