Overview

The A Level in Government and Politics will look at how the UK is governed, both at home and within the context of the European Union, and consider the changing nature of the UK political system.

Description

Students of Government and Politics seek answers to some of the most interesting and important questions affecting the world around us.

If you are interested in the deeper, more philosophical issues such as democracy, freedom and power and equality then it could be the ideal subject for you.

How long is the course?

Both the AS and A2 take one year each.

Success rates

A2 pass rate for 2011: 100%.

What will I study?

You will study how the government works, the role of Parliament, political parties and politcal idealogies.

What does the course lead to?

This A Level would be useful for those interested in a career in local government, the media or politics. You will be given a solid grounding in how the country is governed and how political systems work, which is a transferable tool in a variety of career paths.

What can I go on to study?

This A Level will provide you with a route into university level study in Politics, Law, Media and Communication, Sociology and International Relations among others.

Entry requirements

You must possess five GCSEs at grade C or above, one of which must be English.
