Geography AS/A Level

Overview

The A Level in Geography will encourage you to look at the physical nature of the planet and the influence human activity has on it.

Description

With climate change and environmental issues high on everyone's agenda, geography remains an important course of study.

You'll study the effects of human activity on the planet and cover changes in population structures and increased urbanisation in the Human Geography section. Coastal environments, watercourses and volcanic activity will be studied in Physical Geography.

How long is the course?

Both the AS and A2 take one year each.

Success rates

A2 pass rate for 2011 was 100%.

What does the course lead to?

Environmental occupations in civil engineering, surveying, teaching and ecology are all potential career paths for geography students.

What can I go on to study?

Further study at university is possible on courses such as Environmental Management, Social Policy, Conservation Studies and Science or Terrestrial-related degrees.

Entry requirements

You must possess five GCSEs at grade C or above. This needs to include a Humanities subject at C or above (from the list below):

History 
Geography 
RE
Humanities
Sociology
Ethics
