Foundation Degree Public Sector Administration
Overview
This highly flexible programme is designed for those who currently work in a high level administrative role and wish to develop their career further, or those who aspire to progress to this level in the future.
Description
Through this programme of study you can build on your everyday work experience to gain a high level qualification in your field that is recognised by employers in the public sector.
This programme is validated by Leeds Metropolitan University.
How long is the course?
Two years. Attendance is normally 8 hours over two evenings per week, or one afternoon and one evening per week, with occasional all day events.
You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time amount of time to research and work outside of the classroom.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports, presentations, case studies, individual/group projects and reflective statements. Where modules are work-related, assessment will relate to your own organisation (where appropriate) and/or vocational setting.

There are a total of 16 modules which currently include:
o Personal and Professional Development (two modules at each level)
o Work-Related Learning (two modules at each level)
o Public Sector Ethics
o Social Auditing
o Principles of Administration
o Managing Risk
o Negotiating and Agreeing Budgets
o Managing Individual and Group Performance
o Leadership and Managing Change
o Operations Management
What does the course lead to?
Upon completion of the programme, you may wish to further your career and seek promotion in a range of public sector administrative roles.
What can I go on to study?
On successful completion of the foundation degree you will be eligible to apply to the BA (Hons) Business and Management Degree (validated by Leeds Metropolitan University) available at Vision West Notts.

Entry requirements
All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and any other related issues.
To start this course, you will be expected to have successfully completed, or have evidence of working towards, a minimum of one of the following:
o Appropriate A Levels and three GCSEs at grade C or
equivalent
o NVQ Level 3 in a related subject
o Appropriate BTEC National Certificate with MM profile or Diploma with MMP profile or
above
o Other relevant Level 3 qualification
If you have substantial, relevant work experience rather than qualifications, we will take this into consideration at the interview.
Candidates not currently in work are encouraged to seek relevant part-time or voluntary employment.
Literacy and numeracy skills at Level 2 are esential. Students may be invited or required to attend numeracy classes at the start of the programme.
