Foundation Degree Business Management
Overview
This course is ideally suited to those wishing to pursue a career within a business management capacity and for experienced professionals who want to study at a higher level to develop and reflect on their practice.
Description
The Foundation Degree in Business Management is an innovative and flexible programme of study. It has been designed in conjunction with local employers and Leeds Metropolitan University to ensure that you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge required to operate in today’s challenging business management environments.
This programme is validated by Leeds Metropolitan University.
How long is the course?
Two years. Normally 8 hours over two evenings per week or one afternoon and evening per week or one afternoon and one evening per week with occasional all day events.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports, presentations, case studies, individual/group projects and reflective statements. Where modules are work-related, assessment will relate to your own organisation (where appropriate) and/or vocational setting.
What will I study?
There are a total of 16 modules which currently includes:
o Business Environment
o Legal Contexts
o Managing Individual and Group Performance
o Business Financial Management
o Marketing Concepts
o Human Resource Management
o Introduction to Strategic Management
o Operations Management
o Personal and Professional Development (two
modules at each level)
o Work-Related Learning (two modules at each
level)
What does the course lead to?
Business Management graduates are qualified for a whole range of careers, including management, marketing and finance positions in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
What can I go on to study?
On successful completion of the Foundation Degree, you will have achieved 240 CATS points and be eligible to progress to the BA (Hons) Business and Management top-up award validated by Leeds Metropolitan University and available at Vision West Notts.

Entry requirements
All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and any other related issues.
To start this course, you will be expected to have successfully completed, or have evidence of working towards, a minimum of one of the following:
o Appropriate A Levels and three GCSEs at grade C or
equivalent
o NVQ Level 3 in a related subject
o Appropriate BTEC National Certificate with MM profile or Diploma with MMP profile or
above
o Other relevant Level 3 qualification
If you have substantial, relevant work experience rather than qualifications, we will take this into consideration at the interview.
Candidates not currently in work are encouraged to seek relevant part-time or voluntary employment.
Literacy and Numeracy skills at Level 2 are essential.
