The A Level in Film Studies will give you a broader knowledge of film and the cinema industry from around the world.

Description

Film is the dominant art form of the 21st century, both reflecting and influencing society and culture. Learning to read films as more than a form of entertainment will develop your skills in analysis and interpretation.

This A Level will cover national cinema, film movements and styles and the language of film.

How long is the course?

Both the AS and A2 take one year each.

How will I be assessed?

Examinations and coursework.

A2 pass rate for 2011: 100%

What will I study?

Core units will cover Exploring Film Form, British and American film, World Cinema and film issues and debates.

What does the course lead to?

A career in media would be open to you upon completion of this A Level. Specific employment could include journalism, film critic, script writer, researcher or a role in film production.

What can I go on to study?

Access to Degrees in Cultural Studies, Creative Writing, Media Studies, Film Production, Social Science or Film and Television Studies, are all options for you upon completion of the Film Studies A Level.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade A-C. No prior knowledge/study of film is required.
